HYDROPOWER EUROPE Online Workshop
On 12-13 October 2020 HYDROPOWER EUROPE organised “Addressing technical, environmental, and social challenges for hydropower as a catalyst for the clean energy transition in Europe”, an interactive online workshop that gathered diverse stakeholders, including policymakers, industry actors, and civil society organisations, to help shape recommendations for the future of hydropower in Europe.
The workshop was an opportunity for stakeholders to participate in the consultation process and provide input regarding the direction that European hydropower development should take place in and how hydropower can contribute to a clean energy transition.
Participants sat through presentations and were able to discuss the following:
- Policy and regulatory issues: Designing a supportive EU framework for the hydropower sector.
- Technical challenges and research and innovation priorities: Developing innovative concepts and technologies to boost hydropower potential.
- Environmental issues: Best practices and solutions to make hydropower energy more environmentally-friendly.
- Social issues: Bridging the gap between industry and civil society.
