EASE Activity Report 2024
In 2024, several new regulatory initiatives were introduced, marking a period of significant growth driven by key policy advancements and the collective efforts of EASE, its members, policymakers, and stakeholders.
EASE contributed to this progress by shaping policies to support the evolving energy storage sector. Its activities ranged from fostering the battery sector and ensuring the effective implementation of EU legislation to developing safety guidelines and promoting sustainable raw materials in energy storage.
Here are some of our achievements in 2024:
- The 7th Energy Storage Global Conference brought together over 400 industry leaders, policymakers, regulators, and researchers for an enriching series of discussions on the challenges and groundbreaking innovations shaping the future of energy storage. The event served as a powerful reminder of the sector's growing importance in Europe’s clean energy transition, acting as a vital platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange.
- EASE advocacy efforts were instrumental in supporting key policy advancements, including the Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) and reforms to the Electricity Market Design.
- EASE explored how grid fees impact energy storage and its applications, particularly under varying tariff regimes, providing valuable insights for improving policy and regulations in this area.
- To address industry needs, EASE Secretariat revived the Safety for Energy Storage Systems Task Force to enhance BESS safety. Collaborating with EASE members, they compiled key safety standards and regulations, leading to the EASE BESS Safety Best Practices Guideline.
