ESN Seminar on Battery Energy Storage Systems; Safety, Hazards & Risks

Interest in energy storage has exploded, with storage projects at all sizes in operation, under construction and in planning. Not only has domestic and behind the meter storage gained ground as battery prices have fallen but at larger scales the growth, initially driven by expectations of National Grid’s EFR tender, has now turned into reality, as projects gain ancillary services and capacity market contracts. Obtaining secured income streams has been challenging enough but understanding how safety, regulations, planning requirements, maintenance and end of life issues affect projects presents further uncertainty to suppliers, developers and financiers.

It raises questions of potential liabilities if projects are sold on to third parties and unequal treatment between different suppliers and manufacturers if technologies are not compared on a like for like basis. Network operators and planning authorities also need to understand the risks and how these can be mitigated when considering applications for connections, planning and provision of services.

Hear experts from industry and government speak on these subjects, providing a full insight into current regulations, legislation, good practice and lessons learnt. This is a not to be missed opportunity to increase your knowledge and discuss technical and policy matters with representatives of BEIS, DIT, The HSE’s Health and Safety Laboratory and leading industry experts.
