Batteries Regulation Briefing

On 17 August 2023, The Batteries Regulation agreed upon by the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament came into force. The Regulation ensures that batteries placed in the EU market are sustainable and safe throughout their entire life cycle, and it aims to minimise batteries' harmful effects on the environment. The rules cover the full life cycle; from design & production to reuse & recycling.

EASE welcomes the agreed text for the new Batteries Regulation as it is a step forward to tackle several of the barriers that currently hinder the battery market. EASE policy team has worked on this dossier to understand what the impact on the energy storage system will be. Following up on the original EASE analysis from 2021, a new in-depth briefing has been prepared for the EASE members.
